Freeze wipes out Scottish League

Ball on frozen pitch
The big freeze has hit Scottish football for the fourth consecutive weekend

The entire Scottish Football League programme has been wiped by the freezing weather for the fourth weekend in a row.

In the Second Division, Saturday's Cowdenbeath v Arbroath game is off and a Friday morning inspection at Balmoor ruled out Peterhead v Clyde.

East Stirlingshire v Queen's Park and Berwick Rangers v Stranraer have both been postponed in the Third Division.

The SFL has had matches cancelled each weekend since Saturday 19 December.

The continued cold snap resulted in many postponements across the festive period.

Twelve games were called off in the week before Christmas, then on Boxing Day another 13 matches were hit.

And the year began with a raft of postponements on 2 January, when 15 games were called off as a result of frozen pitches and ice-bound stadium car parks and surrounding roads.

Ten out of 16 Active Nation Scottish Cup games scheduled for Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January have been postponed to date.
