Cowdenbeath survived a late East Stirlingshire onslaught to take a slim advantage into their Second Division play-off semi-final second leg.
John Gemmell put the visitors ahead on 12 minutes with a shot from the edge of the penalty box.
They doubled their lead on the half-hour mark when Mark Ramsay crossed for Jay Stein to fire in at the far post.
Andy Rodgers pulled one back after 62 minutes, and despite late pressure, Shire could not find an equaliser.
