Eddie Malone has yet to become a first-team regular |
Clyde and St Johnstone have completed the swap deal that sees Eddie Malone moving to Cumbernauld and Kevin Fotheringham heading for Perth. Saints had earlier bolstered their defence by signing Steven Anderson.
Manager John Connolly said: "Clyde never let go of their desire to get Eddie and I just felt that in Eddie and Stephen Fraser we lacked experience.
"In Kevin, we are gaining a very good player, a winner with a bit of bite who will be able to organise things."
The 29-year-old Fotheringham, a left-sided defender, has signed for the next two seasons.
Fotheringham, who started his career at Rangers before playing for Ross County, Hamilton Academical, Raith Rovers, Arbroath and Brechin City, has made 12 first-team starts since joined Clyde in January.
He has been in the Clyde midfield for all three of the club's games this season as the Cumbernauld side emerged surprise leaders in Division One. The 18-year-old Anderson, released by Dundee United, signed on Tuesday until the end of the season after a successful trial.
He secured his deal in Perth after featuring as a trialist in St Johnstone's reserve match away to Forfar Athletic last week.
"Clyde have been after Eddie for some time and, of course, it was first mooted as an idea when we were pursuing Ian Harty," Connolly told his club's website.
Harty remained at Broadwood and has now been joined by Malone.
Clyde boss Billy Reid told his club's website: "I'm sorry to see Kevin go, but the only way I can bring people in is to let others go."
Reid had made Malone his main signing target since taking over during the summer, despite the teenager having so far failed to become a first-team regular with their First Division rivals.
"I couldn't be more pleased to have Eddie Malone joining us at Broadwood," said the manager.
"The time it has taken to close this deal shows that the St Johnstone people were very reluctant to lose him.
"I believe this is a great deal for the club. He wants to play first-team football and, most importantly, he said all along that he wanted to come to Clyde."
Edinburgh-born Malone is a product of St Johnstone's youth development programme, made his first-team debut at the end of 2002-03 but was given only five starts last season.
