Steven Pressley holds the cup aloft |
Hearts captain Steven Pressley said the Scottish Cup win was "the start of something" for the Tynecastle club. "We have to prove we can sustain that, but we take a lot of confidence from it," said Pressley.
"We have to show on a regular basis we can challenge the Old Firm. We looked like a tired team today, but that's not to take anything away from Gretna.
"I'm delighted for the fans. It's been a turbulent season and hopefully we've repaid them with this."
Interim head coach Valdas Ivanauskas added: "I'm very happy - this is the start of the party.
"We had many chances today but I expected it to be close."
Paul Hartley was sent off just before the end of extra-time, but he insisted that didn't take the shine off the victory.
"It doesn't matter. I was a bit nervous in the changing rooms watching the boys," he admitted.
"It's magnificent. You can't beat it, but Gretna were outstanding."
