Ashley Williams hurting after Wales loss to Bulgaria
Ashley Williams captained Wales from a midfield holding role
Captain Ashley Williams said Wales were hurting after Brian Flynn's first match in charge ended in a 1-0 defeat to Bulgaria at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Wales also had left-back Chris Gunter sent off in the closing stages as they failed to come back from Ivelin Popov's goal in Euro 2012 qualifying Pool G.
"It hurts for the fans and it hurts for us as well," Williams said.
"I'm lost for words. All I know is I'm bitterly disappointed. We said it was a must-win game and it was."
Wales play away to Switzerland in Basel on Tuesday in what is due to be Flynn's second game as caretaker-manager following the departure of John Toshack.
Having already lost their opening pool game in Montenegro, Wales really had to get a result against Bulgaria at home.
But despite an encouraging performance Wales were undone by Popov's goal early in the second half, while they had left-back Chris Gunter sent off in the closing stages for a block on Dimitar Rangelov.
"In the first half we had a few chances and looked lively but we never really got into it," Williams added.
"They got comfortable on the ball and got the goal at the right time."
