Brian Flynn is testing out a new crop of players in the Under-21 squad

Brian Flynn has included three uncapped players in his Wales Under-21 squad for the trip to Malta on 10 August.

Watford goalkeeper Jonathan Bond, Crystal Palace midfielder Jonathan Williams and Fulham striker Richard Peniket could all win their first caps.

There are six others in the 18-man squad who have just one cap to their name including Cardiff defender Adam Matthews and Southampton's Ryan Doble.

Only Swansea's Casey Thomas has won a cap of the 10 on the stand-by list.

"It's very much so [inexperienced] but the younger players who have been successful and been promoted to the U21s have done particularly well at the lower age group," said boss Flynn.

"That's what it's all about - sometimes it's fast-tracking players who are particularly talented and that's what we're doing.

"The cycle in terms of going forward has been accelerated because the number of players who have gone from the U21s up to the senior side.

"That's what the whole job is all about. That's been very, very fast indeed and we have to replace those players and I must admit I'm really excited about the young crop coming through."

The match in Ta'Qali will be used as a warm-up to Wales' final two Uefa U21 Championship qualifiers against Hungary on 4 September and Italy three days later.

Also in the squad is Reading striker Hal Robson-Kanu, new Swansea defender Neil Taylor, Bristol City defender Christian Ribeiro and midfielder Mark Bradley of Rotherham, who all won their first senior caps in the 2-0 defeat to Croatia in May.

Wales U21s lost their last friendly out in Austria 1-0 in May on the back of their first qualifying defeat to Bosnia-Herzegovina in November 2009.

But they lead group three after six games with two to go against the two teams who could still win the group.
