Welsh football mourns for Brian Godfrey

Football

Former Wales international Brian Godfrey has died at the age of 69 following a long battle with cancer.

Flint-born Godfrey won three caps for Wales, scoring two goals, in 1964-5.

The inside forward played for Everton, Scunthorpe United, Preston North End, Aston Villa, Bristol Rovers, Newport County and Portland Timbers (USA).

He then went into management with Exeter City, Bath City, Weymouth and Gloucester, before retiring to Northern Cyprus five years ago, where he died.

Godfrey was 12th man for Preston at Wembley in the 1964 FA Cup final and played for Aston Villa in the League Cup final of 1971.
