Evans and Vokes could be Wales' strike-force of the future
Teenage Wales strikers Ched Evans and Sam Vokes hope an international shot can aid their club futures.
Evans and Wolves new boy Vokes are in line to win their first caps in Wales' friendly in Iceland on Wednesday.
Manchester City academy graduate Evans fears big-money arrivals could harm his first-team chances but says: "Doing well for Wales would be a great help."
Vokes added: "There's great competition at Wolves but performing well for Wales will certainly assist me."
Both 19-year-old strikers have been tipped as Premier League stars of the future and bolster Wales' strike-force that includes captain Craig Bellamy and Freddy Eastwood.
Wales boss John Toshack is set to give both rookies their Wales debut against Iceland at the Laugardalsvollur Stadium in Reykjavik on Wednesday.
Evans' impressive performances on loan at Championship Norwich City earned him plaudits from Manchester City boss Sven-Gran Eriksson new three-year contract at Eastlands.
But City owner Thaksin Shinawatra has promised to spend big this summer to transform City into a Premier League force.
Evans, though, is desperate to save Shinawatra some cash.
"I grew up through the ranks at Manchester City, " said Evans, who scored 10 goals in 20 starts for Norwich.
"I benefited from going on loan to Norwich and now I want to show I'm good enough for a shot at Man City's first team.
"There's always a fear that the manager will go out an spend 10m on a striker because he has a big transfer kitty, but I'm confident that I can prove with Wales and in pre-season that I'm want they want.
"I know if I'm given a chance I can do it in the Premier League and City have a history of giving their home-grown kids a chance.
"Now I want to follow Michael Johnson, Stephen Ireland and Micah Richards into the first-team."
Evans and Vokes' goals have inspired Wales' Under-21 team to the brink of European Championship qualification.
Brian Flynn's team top qualifying group ten and look set to become the first Welsh team to qualify for a major tournament since the 1958 World Cup squad.
Vokes' performances for both country and club side Bournemouth earned him a move and a four-year deal at Championship side Wolves.
"They're a huge club in the Championship," acknowledged Vokes, who also attracted interest from Newcastle and Celtic.
"Sylvain Ebanks-Blake was the top scorer in the Championship last season so I've got healthy competition.
"But I welcome that challenge and proving myself with Wales will hopefully send a message to Mick McCarthy that I deserve a run in the first-team."
