Reds earned the title - Griffiths

Llanelli striker Rhys Griffiths
Griffiths has 58 goals for Llanelli in all competitions this season

Striker Rhys Griffiths says Llanelli's first Welsh Premier title is just reward for their hard work this season.

"It's fantastic for everyone connected to the club, the chairman, management, officials, fans - everyone," he said.

The New Saints' surprise 2-0 loss at Airbus UK on Friday meant the title was secure, although Griffiths went on to score in the 1-0 win at Connah's Quay.

"All the players were elated, but it was odd to win on Friday," said Rees, whose goal was his 58th of the season.

"It wasn't the moment to start celebrating and we couldn't have a drink as we had a game to prepare for, it was off to bed."

The Reds welcome Newtown to Stebonheath Park on Tuesday, where Griffiths will be looking for a goal that would be his 100th competitive strike for Llanelli.

"It would be great to score it in front of our fans," said the fireman, who earlier this season had a trial with Swiss side FC Aarau before committing to a new deal with the Reds.

"But my big aim in the last two league games is to get the two goals I need to reach 40 for the season in the Welsh Premier."

I'm delighted for everyone involved with Llanelli

Llanelli manager Peter Nicholas

Llanelli, meanwhile, will be targeting a treble as they meet Rhyl in the final of the Loosemore's Challenge Cup on 27 April and Bangor in the final of the Welsh Cup on 4 May, both matches at Newtown's Latham Park.

Manager Peter Nicholas' side also made the final of the FAW Premier Cup this year, losing 1-0 to Newport.

"I'm delighted for everyone involved with Llanelli and pleased that the title is done and dusted," said Nicholas.

"We didn't want it to go to the last game of the season when we're at The New Saints."
