The former Manchester United and Nottingham Forest striker quit after the Citizens' 4-1 league defeat at north Wales rivals Rhyl on Sunday.

That followed Bangor's 2-1 home loss to Carmarthen in the FAW Premier Cup on Tuesday, which denied them a lucrative quarter-final against Cardiff City.

Assistants Steve Owen and Huw Griffiths also leave with Davenport, who took over at Farrar Road in June 2001.

The club issued a statement on Sunday regarding Davenport's departure: "Peter Davenport has tendered his resignation to the club chairman and this has been accepted.

"The club would like to thank Peter for his efforts during his time as manager and wish him all success in the future."

Ironically, Davenport was named as November's Welsh Premier manager of the month on Monday after guiding Bangor to two wins and a draw in the league last month.

Bangor's Academy director Mel Jones will be in charge for Saturday's Welsh Premier match against Haverfordwest County, and the club say are in no hurry to appoint a new manager.
