Coyne has a wealth of managerial experience in the Welsh Premier |
Welsh Premier side Aberystwyth Town have appointed Brian Coyne as their new manager after David Burrows resigned. Player-manager Burrows quit on Saturday after his side's humiliating 1-0 Welsh Cup third round defeat to Pontypridd Town, who are two divisions below Aber.
Burrows will stay on as a player, with the experienced Coyne taking over the reins from next Monday.
Coyne quit as Cwmbran Town boss last month and has previously managed Newtown in the Welsh Premiership.
Burrows, who took over from Gary Finley in the summer of 2004, managed just two wins from Aberystwyth's 10 league games this season.
Club secretary Rhun Owens said the club had reluctantly accepted Burrows' resignation: "David is a very pleasant gentleman who is well respected, but we have to think about the future of Aberystwyth Football Club.
"The string of recent results have been disappointing and I'm sure that the result to Pontypridd played a certain amount in his decision."
