Haverfordwest player-manager Deryn Brace blames the early start to Iceland's football season for their Uefa Cup first qualifying round, first leg loss 1-0 to Hafnarfjrdur. "The Icelandic side are no better than us - the difference was they had the extra sharpness," Brace said.
"We have been back training three weeks and our opponents have been in their season four months.
"I would seriously like to play them 10 games into our league season."
The Pembrokeshire club had to play at Cardiff City's Ninian Park as their Bridge Meadow ground does not meet Uefa's seating criteria.
Hafnarfjrdur dominated for long periods but home goalkeeper Lee Kendall was in fine form and produced a string of fine saves.
Kendall had denied visiting striker Allan Borgvardt several times, but the Hafnarfjrdur frontman broke the deadlock in the 74th minute with a shot from distance.
However, Brace is confident that the Welsh part-timers can overturn the deficit in the return leg in a fortnight at the Kaplakrikavllur Stadium.
Brace said: "The Icelandic team will probably think they have done the hard work.
"No one will be expecting us to do anything. But we are capable of going away and getting results as we showed last year."
Haverfordwest's fellow Welsh Premier side TNS lost 2-0 away to Swedish side sters.
