Wales midfielder Robbie Savage says John Toshack would have a tough time as the country's manager. Toshack, a forthright media critic of Mark Hughes' Wales team, is thought to be amongst the front-runners to replace Hughes as national boss.
"Some pundits haven't helped themselves by media comments about Hughes and Wales," said Savage, referring to Toshack in a column for the Daily Post.
"If they get the job they will soon find the boot is on the other foot."
Savage added: "I don't know a great deal about Toshack, he's not been involved in British football for 20 years or so since his successful spell at Swansea and seems to spend a lot of time in Spain nowadays."
The Birmingham midfield star said that he would like to see national captain Gary Speed take over the running of the Wales team, with the experienced Brian Flynn alongside him.
"I think the two men could form a fantastic partnership, especially as Gary has made it clear he wants to continue playing for another couple of years," said Savage.
