Mullen's playing career included spells with Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, Cardiff and Newport County.
As a manager he guided Burnley from the fourth to the first division and twice took the club to Wembley.

Mullen is currently coaching the Wales Under-19 side alongside Neville Southall. Seagulls spokesman Andy Owens said: "This is a significant appointment reflecting the club's desire to move forward.
"Jimmy's impressive coaching credentials and abilities with young players make him the ideal candidate to help establish the foundations needed for the club's long-term development."
Mullen will attend a fans' forum at the Colwyn Bay clubhouse on Tuesday, 3 June (1930 BST).
