Crewe   1 - 2   Blackpool

A 79th-minute winner from Daniel Nardiello ended League Two side Crewe's hopes of a first-round Carling Cup upset against Blackpool.

After a goalless first half, the visitors took the lead on 51 minutes when Adam Nowland's 18-yard free-kick beat goalkeeper Adam Legzdins.

A Calvin Zola equaliser saw Crewe hit back in the 73rd minute.

But Blackpool sealed the win courtesy of Nardiello's accurate finish from the edge of the box.

Crewe manger Gudjon Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke:

"We have a tough schedule in August so I decided to take a look at some of the younger players.

"We created more chances and more attempts than them, but most of them were not on target.

"We got the equaliser, but then we conceded a soft goal and we couldn't get back on track."
