Burnley knocked Lancashire rivals Oldham out of the Carling Cup second round for the second successive season at Turf Moor on Tuesday.
Chris McCann opened the scoring early on when he stooped low to direct a downward header past Greg Fleming.
Martin Paterson took advantage of hesitant Oldham defending to tap in a rebound from Chris Eagles' rasping shot before dispatching a simple low drive.
He almost grabbed a hat-trick but was denied by the post late on.
