Paul Parry gave Cardiff a flying start at Bournemouth
Paul Parry struck twice in the first 12 minutes to send Cardiff City into the second round of the Carling Cup at the expense of hosts Bournemouth.
The Wales forward took seven minutes to open the scoring with a right-footed finish from the edge of the area after Peter Whittingham's pass.
Parry then cashed in on some sloppy defending to head into an empty net.
Striker Jo Kuffour gave Bournemouth hope on 28 minutes, outpacing Roger Johnson to fire into the bottom corner.
Bournemouth manager Kevin Bond: "I feared the worst after 15 minutes. We made some terrible errors and gave them two easy goals.
"At that time Cardiff looked like Real Madrid and I thought we would be in for a long night.
"But we kept at them, got the break and were a better team in the second half."
Cardiff manager Dave Jones: "We had enough chances to have won three or four times over.
"The match should have been taken away from Bournemouth before the second half.
"It was all about attitude and some of my players fell short of that. Some of our football was superb and we cut them open at will in the first half but we did not finish them off."
