Liam Boyce was thought to have made his last Cliftonville appearance

The proposed transfer of Cliftonville striker Liam Boyce to German Bundesliga 2 side SpVgg Greuther Furth appears to have fallen through.

The North Belfast club have not received a final written agreement of the transfer, despite Boyce having agreed terms with the German outfit.

"We set a deadline for the paperwork but we have received nothing," said Cliftonville chairman Gerard Lawlor.

"We are now working on the assumption that it will not arrive," he added.

"There have been promises all week, but nothing has been forthcoming," explained Lawlor.

It appears that the collapse of the deal may alert other interested parties.

Boyce travelled to Germany last week to hold talks with Greuther Furth and it was expected that a deal would be finalised this week.

Boyce went on a pre-season trial with Celtic during the summer and has also been linked with moves to other major English and Spanish clubs.

He was named the NI football writers' player of the year in May.

Boyce scored 19 goals in his debut season with Cliftonville, helping the Belfast club finish second in the Carling Premiership.

He will now feature in the Reds' squad to face Crusaders in the Carling Premiership on Friday night.
