Chris Scannell scores to give Cliftonville the points in their opening Carling Premiership fixture
Skipper Chris Scannell got the vital goal as Cliftonville kicked off their Carling Premiership campaign with a 1-0 win away to Newry City.
Scannell slid in to meet Kieran O'Connor's cross in the 61st minute to give Eddie Patterson's side the points.
In the first half Scannell had lobbed wide early on while Newry's John Convery headed over the bar.
Newry had their chances with former Cliftonville stars Francis Murphy and Conor Downey going closest.
