Alan Davidson snatched a 94th minute winner for Newry City in a reverse of Saturday's Cup quarter-final defeat.

The visitors took the lead after 18 minutes when Paul Keenan slotted home after Stephen Garrett intercepted Stuart Millar's poor header back.

Richard Gibson levelled with a penalty before Alan Davidson got Newry's second four minutes into the second half.

Gibson got his second with a looping header over keeper Andy Coleman before Davidson snatch the victory late on.

The victory is Newry's first league win since January and moves Gerry Flynn's side closer to safety, three points ahead of Lisburn Distillery and five clear of bottom side Institute.

After Saturday's exciting quarter-final between the two sides, it was a slow start to the game with Newry fashioning the early chances through Stephen Garrett and Cullen Feeney.

Flynn's side went ahead after a defensive mix-up for Coleraine.

Stephen Garrett intercepted a weak header back to David O'Hare by Millar and the striker rounded the keeper before sliding the ball to Keenan who fired home from close-range.

The visitors had a chance to double their lead four minutes later. A looping ball into the area found Garrett unmarked but the striker could not control his volley and fired over.

With one eye on Saturday's Irish Cup semi-final, the nine changes to the line-up for the home side were evident on the pitch as the Bannsiders struggled to find any rhythm.

With Rory Patterson on the bench and Darren Boyce injured, Jody Tolan and Richard Gibson led the line for the Bannsiders but found chances hard to come by.

Jonny Watt's drive across the box after half an hour was the closest David Platt's side came to testing Coleman in the Newry goal until the home side levelled on 42 minutes.

Newry centre-back Cullen Feeney brought down Gibson in the area to give the home side a lifeline after a poor first half.

Gibson took the penalty himself and coolly slotted into the bottom right corner for his third goal of the season.

Despite a bright second half start from the home side, they went behind after just four minutes.

Davidson capitalised on Marc Mukendi's slip to glide round the centre-half, fire across O'Hare and into the bottom right corner.

Gibson's looping header restored parity four minutes later. A high bounce from a Coleraine throw-in evaded the visiting defence to allow Gibson to head over Coleman to double his tally.

With the final kick of the came, Newry grabbed all three points.

A cross in from the right found Davidson in the area and he slipped the ball past O'Hare in front of the travelling supporters to secure a deserved win.
