Glenavon manager Marty Quinn has started recruiting for next season by signing winger Stuart King from Ballymena United in a two-year deal.

The 28-year-old joined the Sky Blues from Linfield in 2005 and scored 11 goals in 112 appearances.

"It is time for a new challenge and I have no doubt it is the best option for me," King told the Glenavon website.

Meanwhile, veteran player Gerard McMahon will take over as manager of the Glenavon reserve team next season.

"The first six months of the season went really well for me at Ballymena and I actually got the captaincy," added King.

"But I broke my ankle just after Boxing Day so in the last six months I haven't played much but I'm fully fit now and hopefully I'll get a good pre-season under my belt and get a good run of games next year."

Quinn is delighted to bring a player of King's "calibre and experience" to Mourneview Park.

"He's now 28 and I think we're getting him at the best time and I'm quite confident that I can get Stuart King back to his original best again," he said.

"He's had a wee injury problem in the past and he'd be the first to admit that he hasn't been as consistent as he'd like to be but I know I'll get that out of him.

"He's a good lad, a good character and he'll certainly be an asset in the changing room.

"He likes a bit of craic and he likes a bit of a laugh but he's serious about his football and he's come here to try and win things and that's what I'm in this business for as well - to try and win things for Glenavon.

"He's got two good feet and I have my plans as to where I'll play him but he's versatile - his set pieces are first class with quality deliveries into the box.

"If we can get a system so we know where we're expecting the ball we'll get people in there and we'll get goals and we'll be looking for Stuart to weigh in with goals of his own as well."
