Jordan Owens' 34th-minute goal was enough to earn Crusaders victory over struggling Newry City in Saturday's JJB Sports Irish Premiership clash.
Stephen Garrett lobbed an early chance over for Newry but it was a largely lacklustre opening at the Showgrounds.
Owens hit the winner after Newry keeper Andy Coleman, under pressure from Gary Smyth, had been unable to gather a Jamie Marks free-kick.
David Rainey had a chance to add to the lead but fired straight at Coleman.
The result means that third-placed Crues remain four points ahead of Lisburn Distillery.
Newry are now only three points above bottom club Dungannon.
