Gary Liggett headed Glenavon into the lead at Newry

Glenavon moved three points clear of bottom club Dungannon Swifts by winning at Newry City on Boxing Day.

Newry went closest to scoring in the first half when Chris Morgan's shot struck the crossbar.

Gary Liggett headed in from Tony Grant's cross to give the Lurgan side the lead in the 51st minute.

Liggett was then the supplier eight minutes later for Grant to head in the second goal which sealed victory for Stephen McBride's side.
