Rory Hamill is congratulated
Rory Hamill is congratulated by Barry Johnston and Mark Holland

Cliftonville claimed their first win in the JJB Sports Premiership since their opening fixture of the season as Rory Hamill's goal ensured the points.

Sean Roddy and David Ogilby missed early half-chances for Institute while Ronan Scannell, Ciaran Donaghy and George Mullan went close for the Reds.

Institute's best chance fell to Philip Lowry before half-time with John Connolly making a fine save.

Hamill hit Cliftonville's winner on 69 minutes with a superb finish.

The ex-Glentoran player cleverly controlled a long ball over the top of the Stute defence and slotted home after rounding Alan Ryan.

Chris Scannell had gone close to putting Cliftonville ahead after the break but Ryan produced a good save.

Institute were unable to fashion a decent chance after Hamill's goal as Cliftonville held on with a degree of comfort to claim the points.
