Newry City and Glentoran failed to produce a goal at the Showgrounds in the JJB Sports Premiership clash.
Glentoran's Dean Fitzgerald hit the woodwork early on and impressive Newry keeper Paul Murphy then tipped a David Scullion effort out for a corner.
Newry's Stephen Garrett was denied by Elliott Morris before Murphy saved Gary Hamilton's badly-struck penalty.
Both teams had second-half chances but Newry more than held their own with Michael Collins in superb form.
Newry started well but the first chance fell to Andrew Waterworth who fired across the face of goal when well placed.
Dean Fitzgerald then had a good chance for the visitors but he fired against the woodwork.
David Scullion then went close with a headed effort but Murphy did well to tip over.
A wonderful pass from Chris Morgan set up Newry's best first-half chance for Garrett but Morris reacted well to smother the effort.
Glentoran won their penalty on 42 minutes after Emmett Friars tripped Waterworth but Hamilton's weak penalty was easily saved by Murphy.
After the break, Emmett Friars went close to heading Newry ahead after Ross Black's cross while Morris saved a Morgan effort.
At the other end of the field, Murphy's continued to star as he blocked Waterworth's pointblank chance.
Both teams had periods of pressure in the closing 15 minutes but a draw was a fair result.
