Sammy Morrow (right) hit Derry's opening goal at Terryland Park
Holders Derry City progressed to this year's Eircom League of Ireland Cup final thanks to a 2-0 win over Galway United at Terryland Park.
The first-half of Tuesday night's semi-final failed to produce a goal but Derry took the lead with a Sammy Morrow penalty after 72 minutes.
That came four minutes after Galway goalkeeper Gary Rogers had saved a Mark Farren penalty.
Niall McGinn made it 2-0 for the Candystripes with an 83rd minute goal.
Stephen Kenny's side, who lost to Shamrock Rovers on Friday, meet Cork City or Wexford Youths in the decider.
Derry, who are aiming for a fourth successive League Cup success, lined out with only two players who had started Friday's home defeat by Shamrock Rovers on Friday night.
Those were Ciaran Martyn and Gareth McGlynn.
Morrow went close to putting the Candystripes ahead a minute before half-time but Galway goalkeeper Rogers tipped the ball wide.
John Lester went close to putting Galway ahead in the 63rd minute but Derry keeper Darren Quigley produced a smart save.
Rogers produced a brilliant save to deny Farren's penalty on 68 minutes and Derry turned to Morrow when they were awarded another spot-kick five minutes later and he made no mistake.
Galway pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages and Derry exploited the gaps at the back to notch a second goal with McGinn firing home after good work by Farren.
