Ballymena United have launched an attempt to lure midfielder Conor Downey from league champions Linfield.
The Sky Blues have tabled an offer for the former Cliftonville favourite and, if successful, it would be a major signing for new manager Roy Walker.
But Linfield boss David Jeffrey is reluctant to see another player leave.
"I have told Conor I do not want him to go. He will not leave for nothing, especially after his performance against Zagreb," said Jeffrey.
Downey, who joined Linfield in January 2007, submitted a transfer request in June 2008.
It is believed his former club Cliftonville would be interested in getting the player back to Solitude.
