Linfield boss David Jeffrey has turned down the chance to sign former Northern Ireland midfielder Philip Mulryne because he wants a striker instead.
The ex-Norwich City player had been training with the league champions and played in their 3-2 friendly win at Ballyclare Comrades on Saturday.
"The money we have available will be needed to bring in forward players," Jeffrey told the club website.
"It is no secret we need front men having recently lost three."
Thomas Stewart recently moved to Derry City, Mark Dickson switched to Crusaders and Timmy Adamson returned to Dungannon Swifts.
Jeffrey added: "I have to be aware of the resources at our disposal and I have decided not to offer Philip Mulryne a contract.
"In other circumstances, he would have been a great addition to our squad but I feel I must prioritise and upfront is my main priority right now."
