Kenny unhappy with McCourt deal

Derry City boss Stephen Kenny believes the club should get more money from the expected transfer of winger Pat McCourt to West Bromwich Albion.

Derry have refused to disclose the fee involved but it is believed to be substantially better than the initial offer which the club said was derisory.

The deal for the 24-year-old is subject to the player passing a medical.

"It is not a good deal for the club but Paddy was out of contract in November and he wanted to go," said Kenny.

Kenny is unsure whether the money from the transfer will be used to replace McCourt and further strengthen the Cansdystripes squad.

"We've only got two wingers in the squad so we are short in that area - we definitely need another player

"I don't know if I'll get money from the transfer. It has not been clarified yet and the board would like the money to go elsewhere.

"We not in the same financial bracket to sign the type of players that St Pat's or Bohemians can bring in.

"We've signed players who have a point to prove. That's our market but we've done very well and it doesn't mean we won't be successful.

"We don't have serious investors at the club but we have passionate people who run it and a great support base. We thrive on our strengths."

Kenny has also ruled out a move for Sligo Rovers' attacking midfielder Fuhrudin Kudozovic, saying the player's wages and transfer fee were beyond the club's finances.

It is thought that the Midlands club's initial offer for McCourt was in the region of 50,000.

The former Northern Ireland U21 international had also been linked with other clubs in England and Scotland.
