Linfield boss David Jeffrey praised his players for "stepping up to the mark under a burden of expectation and pressure" after their league title win.

The Blues secured the championship for the third successive year with a 3-0 win over Crusaders at Seaview.

"They are a pretty special group of players and it is down to them that we have won the title," said Jeffrey.

"The fans are our extra man. They turn out in huge numbers and the board and backroom team have been great too."

"We have more points than any other team, more goals scored and the least goals conceded so that is hard to beat," added Jeffrey.

"It was not our best performance ever against Crusaders but we still scored three and did not concede any.

"I am very, very pleased and proud of my players but the cup final against Coleraine next week is another day."

Jeffrey paid special tribute to the two most senior players in his squad, Glenn Ferguson and Noel Bailie.

"Glenn and Noel are remarkable and as long as they keep on doing the business they will be here. Both of them are tremendous athletes."
