Gareth McGlynn (left) battles with Mark Rossiter at Dalymount
Derry City boss Stephen Kenny will probably feel that his side should have taken all three points in Friday's Eircom League clash at Dalymount Park.
Gareth McGlynn missed the best chance of the first half while the lively Owen Morrison also hit the woodwork with 12 minutes remaining.
Glenn Crowe head over for Bohs in the first half and a poor first touch also meant he wasted a second half chance.
Derry are three points behind leaders St Pat's who have a game in hand.
But the Candystripes had the better shape throughout the contest and indeed Bohs' former Derry player Killian Brennan acknowledged after the game that the northerners had probably deserved to win.
Derry boss Kenny demanded a positive response from his players after last Friday's disappointing defeat in Bray.
Kenny opted for a five-man midfield and the tactic worked to Derry's advantage throughout.
McGlynn should have scored on 14 minutes but from pointblank range, he headed straight at goalkeeper Brian Murphy after Morrison's excellent cross.
Crowe headed Brennan's cross over the bar on 20 minutes on a rare occasion when the Derry defence was breached.
Ex-Derry favourite Brennan fired over a great cross just after the break but they was no Bohs player present to get the vital touch.
A slip by Ruaidhri Higgins almost resulted in a chance being presented to Crowe but the ex-Republic of Ireland striker's first touch was poor and the ball was cleared.
Morrison then hit the woodwork 12 minutes from time with a low drive after good work by Eddie McCallion and Mark Farren.
The result keeps Derry in third place in the table - two points behind Bohs and a further point adrift of leaders St Pat's, who have Sunday's game with Shamrock Rovers in hand.
