Braid star Watson interests Blues
Ballymena defender Albert Watson
Albert Watson is captain of Ballymena United
Linfield have made an official approach to have talks with Ballymena United captain Albert Watson.

The highly-rated centre-back has so far refused to sign a new contract offer from the Sky Blues.

Ballymena United have confirmed that Linfield are set to open talks with Watson, who current Showgrounds contract runs out in the summer.

Players are allowed to hold discussions with other clubs during the last six months of their contracts.

If Watson leaves in the summer, United would be eligible for compensation.

Under Fifa guidelines, Ballymena could command 7,500 for the defender.

The figure is determined at 1,500 for each year that the player has been at a club up to the age of 21.

Watson has been part of the Sky Blues' senior squad since the age of 16.
