George McMullan secured the points for Cliftonville

Francis Murphy converted a 27th-minute penalty past Alan Ryan after Stephen Campbell brought down Chris Scannell.

Ryan had earlier saved from Murphy while John Connolly denied Ryan Campbell and after the break Stephen Campbell had a 'goal' disallowed.

Scannell shot inches wide for the Reds and Martin Cuttmore and Ryan McCreadie had chances for Institute before George McMullan netted in the last minute.
