Stephen Baxter was proud of his team's performance |
Crusaders manager Stephen Baxter hailed his side's second half display in the 2-1 County Antrim Shield semi-final win over Ballymena as "outstanding". "That was as good as we have played for a while. We passed the ball well, might have scored a few more and were worthy winners," said the Crues boss.
"David Rainey scored two and might have had more. He has the ability to twist and turn and has a cannonball shot.
"He was hungry and worked really hard. I thought he was first class."
Baxter explained that he had sent his side out to adopt a defensive approach in the first 20 minutes of the game.
"We knew they would maybe come at us hard so we set a shape up, but it didn't work and there were a few scary moments so we very quickly changed it.
"The boys really stepped it up in the 10 or 15 minutes before half-time and we started to pass it well and create some good chances.
"We were good after the break and Darren Lockhart did a superb job in replacing Andy Hunter, who had to come off with a leg injury, at the centre of defence.
"He pulled the ball out of the sky, passed it well and helped us to keep our shape and discipline.
"There were good displays too from Chris Morrow and from Aaron Montgomery who was playing his first match at right-back.
"We are in the final and although Glentoran will be tough opponents, we will go to enjoy it and try to win it."
