Friars has also had spells at Ipswich Town and Derry City | Newry City have signed Sean Friars from Cliftonville, beating off interest from other Irish League clubs. Cliftonville official Gerard Lawlor met with City's manager Gerry Flynn, a 1998 league title winner with the Reds, to finalise the move on Thursday night. Friars has moved to the Showgrounds outfit for an undisclosed fee. The former Ipswich Town and Derry City player impressed in Cliftonville's Intertoto Cup win over FC Dinaburg earlier this season.
