Paul Millar secured CIS Insurance Cup success with Glentoran |
Paul Millar believes he can "leave with his head held high" after being sacked as Glentoran manager. "Myself and Andy Mathieson (assistant manager) came in at a difficult time and steadied the ship," said Millar.
"This season we won the CIS Cup, qualified for the Uefa Cup and the Setanta Cup."
Meanwhile, Glens striker Gary Hamilton is believed to be unhappy following the axing of Millar but has not handed in a transfer request.
Glentoran led the Carnegie Irish League table at Christmas but they had a poor second half to the season - although they did claim the runners-up spot.
They were beaten in the sixth round of the JJB Sports Irish Cup by Portadown and lost the County Antrim Shield semi-final against Cliftonville.
Millar's believes Glentoran's superb start to the campaign followed by a slump after Christmas could have been a factor in his dismissal.
"We set a high standard at the start of the season and maybe that's something to do with it, that we didn't win the league," he added.
"I watched Chelsea throw away the league and Champions League recenetly and they got a standing ovation from their fans at the gane against Arsenal.
"I think there was a minority of Glens fans who made life hard for me but there were a large number of fans who supported me and Glentoran FC.
"It was an honour and a privilege for me to manage Glentoran."
Glens chairman Stafford Reynolds hinted that the board's decision to dispense with Millar's services had not been unanimous.
"It was the decision of the majority of the board members and we had to abide by that," said Reynolds.
