David Jeffrey praised his players after the Windsor Park win |
Linfield boss David Jeffrey has slammed the comments of Cork City star Joe Gamble following the Blues' 1-0 win in Monday night's Setanta Cup semi-final. Cork dominated the majority of the game and missed a number of good chances.
Gamble said Linfield were "not good enough to go through to the final" and that Cork gave the Irish League side a "lesson in football".
But Jeffrey accused Gamble of "lacking respect" and that he was being "ungracious" in defeat.
An Aidan O'Kane strike five minutes from time gave Linfield victory at Windsor Park and sealed a place in the final for the second time in three years.
"Linfield weren't the better side - we were by far the better side and they had only one chance through our own mistake," added midfielder Gamble.
"We dominated from the kick-off and had so many chances. It should have been three or four nil and I can't believe we didn't win."
The remarks angered Jeffrey, who believes the scoreline speaks for itself.
He said: "It is unfortunate for Joe to say that. If they were so good why didn't they beat us?
"It was a little bit ungracious. We have learnt how to be gracious.
"There is a lack of respect and that is unfortunate.
"It was not a great Linfield performance but it was one of character and desire and I'm so proud of the players.
"The supporters were our 12th man. When the players were out on their feet they urged them on and on."
