Tim McCann and Michael Gault congratulate Thomas Stewart |
Linfield defeated Glentoran 2-1 at the Oval on Tuesday to top Group One of the Setanta Cup and ensure a home draw against Cork City in the semi-finals. Thomas Stewart turned and fired a left foot shot past Elliott Morris on seven minutes but Kyle Neill equalised with a penalty three minutes before the break.
Neill fired home after Kris Lindsay brought down Chris Morgan in the area.
Peter Thompson outpaced the Glentoran defence, drew Morris and fired the ball between his legs into the net after 55.
Stewart was scoring his 13th goal of the season and could have added to his tally late in the game but was denied by Morris.
Substitute Oran Kearney hit the post when he should have done better late in the game.
