Tony Grant scored Drogheda's second goal against Glentoran |
Glentoran's third defeat in the Setanta Cup campaign effectively ended their hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the All-Ireland competition. Drogheda went into the lead through Aiden O'Keefe on 30 minutes.
The Glens were then reduced to 10 men as Jason Hill, who had earlier been booked, was shown a straight red for bringing down Eamon Zayed.
Just before half-time Tony Grant got in between Paul Leeman and Gary Smyth to scored United's second.
Glentoran tightened up in the second half with striker Michael Halliday providing their best two efforts.
He saw a header go just over and keeper Mikko Vilmunen turned away a fierce drive.
The result takes Drogheda into second place in Group One with seven points.
With two matches each remaining, Linfield are top on 10 points while Derry have five and Glentoran one.
