The ban comes into effect for the game against Sweden next month |
A no smoking policy is to be enforced at all future Northern Ireland football internationals at Windsor Park. Last month, an independent report looking at Windsor's suitability for international football said that the stadium was a significant fire risk.
A large section of the ground's South Stand is a wooden structure.
The IFA said the move was in line with Government moves to ban smoking in all of Northern Ireland's workplaces and enclosed public spaces from April.
An IFA statement said that decision would almost make promote a "more family friendly atmosphere".
This ban will take effect when Northern Ireland play Sweden on 28 March in the European Championship qualifier.
Last month, IFA chief executive Howard Wells did acknowledge his concerns about the wooden structure in the stadium's south stand.
"You wouldn't need to be a rocket scientist to know that you've got a problem (with the South Stand)," said the IFA chief.
"I've always been staggered that smoking has been allowed there but that has been a problem with legislation in Northern Ireland which has been beyond our control."
