Lewis Hamlin hit two of Larne's second-half goals |
Larne boosted their hopes of staying in the Carnegie Irish Premier League by claiming a dramatic comeback victory over Newry City on Friday night. Goals from Richard Clarke (24) and Paddy McLaughlin (37) seemed to put Newry in control by half-time.
However, Tomaz Grzegorczyk got Larne back into the game two minutes after the interval.
Lewis Hamlin then levelled on 75 and he hit Larne's winner two minutes later to leave managerless Newry stunned.
Newry's Kevin Keegan forced a smart save from Chris Keenan in the seventh minute and Robert Robinson came to the rescue at the other end for the home side when he stopped Tony Anderson's shot eight minutes later.
However, Anderson will feel as though he should have done better than firing his shot directly at Robinson.
Newry did take the lead on 24 minutes when Clarke finished to the net with a low shot after being played in by Paddy Quinn.
The home side looked in complete control when they added a second goal 13 minutes later when McLaughlin rose to head Damien Curran's corner past Keenan.
However, Larne came out fired up after the break and Polish striker Grzegorgyzuk got them back into the game when he fired in from close range in the 47th minute.
Hamlin levelled in delightful fashion for a lobbed effort in the 75th minute after he had displayed a superb first touch.
He then repeated the dose two minutes later with a close-range finish after Robinson had failed to hold his initial effort.
Newry had a couple of late penalty shouts turned down in the closing minutes, much to the home support's displeasure.
