Midfielder Ruaidhri Higgins has agreed to sign a new two-year deal with Derry City after turning down the chance to move to Bohemians.

The 22-year-old Limavady man is the first out-of-contract Derry player to re-sign for the Candystripes under new manager Pat Fenlon.

Goalkeeper Pat Jennings and central defender Clive Delaney are still to finalise new deals at the Brandywell.

Former Linfield player Tony Gorman is to discuss a coaching role with Fenlon.

Higgins said he had received a good offer but decided to stay with the new Derry boss made it clear he was part of the club's future.

"Having had a great season our target now is to win the league," he added.
