Glentoran win in penalty shootout
Jason Hill
Jason Hill scored the winning penalty for Glentoran
Glentoran beat Linfield 4-3 on penalties to reach the final of the CIS Cup after the match ended scoreless after extra-time at Windsor Park.

Jason Hill scored the winning spot-kick after Linfield's Peter Thompson and Timmy Adamson and Gary Hamilton of Glentoran all missed their penalties.

Thompson, Thomas Stewart and Glenn Ferguson all had chances for Linfield but were unable to convert.

Kyle Neill saw his 49th minute penalty saved by Blues goalkeeper Alan Mannus.

The first chance of a dull first half came when Ferguson put Thompson through on goal but Elliott Morris produced a fine save.

The Glentoran keeper then dealt with a Stewart shot and brilliantly denied Ferguson the opener from an eight-yard header.

Mannus produced a good stop from Neill's penalty after the break.

Neill's corner was spilled by Mannus and in a goalmouth scramble referee Mark Courtney noticed a handball offence but Neill could not find the net.

Darren Lockhart shot into the side netting after good play by Hamilton while at the other end Stewart bent a shot just wide of the post.

Neither side could break the deadlock in extra-time and Thompson, Hamilton and Adamson all missed before the remaining penalties were scored.

Colin Nixon, Willo McDonagh, Neill and Hill were the successful spot kick takers for the Glens while Paul McAreavey, Stephen Douglas and Jim Ervin were on target for the Blues.
