Sam McCready has resigned as chairman of Larne after 10 years at the helm of the Carnegie Premier League club. McCready said he was disillusioned with the hard slog involved in running an Irish League outfit.
Vice-chairman Wesley McGookin will take over in the interim while the search begins for a full-time successor.
"It is a long time in what is really a 24/7 job. There are chairmen up and down the county trying to keep clubs afloat," said McCready.
"But there are people who do not want to confront issues, who will not face up to the fact that Irish League football is dying on its feet.
"If the club wants me to stay in some other capacity, I will. I have always been a supporter."
McCready's decision comes a day after Larne supporters arranged a meeting to show their backing for the chairman and club secretary Sean Mcveigh.
The meeting had been scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 31 October and was in response to criticism levelled at the officials on websites.
