Smyth opted to return to Glentoran from Ballymena last month |
Gary Smyth will miss Glentoran's opening Uefa Cup match scheduled for 13 July because of a family holiday. School holiday rules meant that Smyth had no option but to organise his family break for July.
The holiday was organised in February after his previous club Ballymena United had been knocked out of the Nationwide Irish Cup.
Glentoran may also be without Colin Nixon for the European opener as the defender is troubled by a back injury.
Nixon broke bones in his back when he fell awkwardly in the first half of the the Irish Cup final defeat by Linfield - although he played on in that game and didn't realise the extent of the injury until a week later.
Smyth will be back from his holiday in time for Glentoran's Uefa Cup second leg on 27 July.
