United boss Tommy Wright is looking forward to taking on Linfield |
Ballymena United boss Tommy Wright is happy to be facing runaway league leaders Linfield in the Crestwear Co Antrim Shield final on 7 February. The match will be staged at Seaview, with a 1945 GMT kick-off, with extra-
time and penalties if necessary.
A Kevin Kelbie treble gave the Sky Blues a 3-0 victory over Larne in Wednesday night's semi-final.
"It is great to get into the final of any competition and hopefully it will be a good game," said Wright.
"We are looking forward to it and we certainly will not be going along just to make up the numbers."
United made a poor start to the season under new manager Wright but their form has improved and the Sky Blues are now fifth in the Carnegie Premier League.
"Our biggest problem was individual errors but we have been cutting them out and we have conceded just three goals in our last six or seven games," added Wright.
"New players have come in to the club so there is now competition for places - things are going along nicely.
"Making the Co Antrim decider is a big boost for the club, board and supporters.
"I am really pleased and it is great for my players to get into the final."
Linfield, who are unbeaten in domestic football this season, defeat Big Two rivals Glentoran 1-0 in the first semi-final on Tuesday night.
