Richard Clarke scored two in the 6-1 win over Ballymena |
Portadown midfielder Richard Clarke has insisted they are not out of the race for the Carnegie Premier League title despite trailing Linfield by 11 points. The Ports got their first win in four matches when they hammered Ballymena United 6-1 on Friday and Clarke knows they have to produce consistency.
"We are not giving up the fight but have left ourselves a lot to do with Linfield going so well," said Clarke.
"There is a big game against Glentoran coming up and we aim to gain ground."
Third-placed Portadown, who completed a league double over the Glens last season, are nine points behind the champions and they meet at Shamrock Park on 17 December.
"The win over Ballymena was crucial because we needed to bounce back after a terrible performance against Linfield," said Clarke who scored twice in Friday's win.
"We were positive and the early breakthrough gave us something to build on."
