Joe McAree tried to sign Wells at the start of this season |
Dungannon Swifts boss Joe McAree has signed former Cliftonville and Portadown goalkeeper David Wells. The 27-year-old started this season at junior outfit Moyola Park after quitting Newry City early last season.
"Roy McCreadie gave him a three-year deal at Newry but he didn't stay long and went to Moyola," said McAree.
Wells will be unable to play for Dungannon until January but his arrival means a likely exit at that stage for either Stuart Addis or Gavin Cushley.
"Davy did very well at Cliftonville and both Linfield and Portadown were interested in him before he decided to go to the Ports," said McAree.
"He will be battling it out for a first team place with either Gavin or Stuart."
McAree tried to sign Wells at the start of this season but the Englishman opted to stay with the junior club, who at that stage were managed by his former Cliftonville team-mate Paul Trainor.
However with Trainor now departed from Moyola, Wells has accepted McAree's latest offer to join the Swifts.
