Chris Morgan scored Glentoran's third goal against Omagh |
Glentoran ended a three-game goal drought with an important win over bottom club Omagh Town at the Oval. After their Irish Cup exit and the league defeat at Dungannon, Glentoran's season was in danger of falling apart.
But Roy Coyle's men kept the Premier League title race on the boil with first-half goals from Michael Halliday, Pat McGibbon and Chris Morgan.
Halliday and McGibbon netted early headers before Morgan went through to score just before the interval.
Omagh were behind in the fourth minute when Halliday's looping header ended in the net as Town keeper Glenn Watson collided with Paul Leeman.
When McGibbon nodded in an 11th-minute second it looked ominous for Omagh.
But after Morgan's third the game died away and there was little to enthuse about in a disappointing second half.
The wins means Glentroan stay one point behind champions Linfield in the title race with three games left.
The top two clash at the Oval on 23 April in an eagerly-awaited clash which could well decide the destination of the Gibson Cup.
