Gary Smyth's late free-kick hit the Cliftonville crossbar |
Ballymena United's push for a top-four finish in the Irish Premier League faltered when they failed to crack Cliftonville at Solitude. The Sky Blues, stunned by their Irish Cup exit a week earlier, almost grabbed victory near the end when Gary Smyth's free-kick struck the crossbar.
In the first half Ballymena's Garth Scates was denied by a great block by Reds skipper Keith Mulvenna.
Robrt Robinson saved well when Conor Downey had a chance for Cliftonville.
John O'Laughlin headed narrowly wide for the Reds soon afterwards.
Ballymena now lie seventh in the IPL standings, three points behind fourth-placed Limavady United.
